About Me.

20100617Hi, I’m David. You’ve come here to learn a little about me, which is only natural seeing as you’ve probably read my blog and want a little inside information on the person you’re reading about. Firstly, just a note about my blog. My blog, staypuff.net, used to be quite open about my life and all the little adventures that occurred within it. These days’ I’ve restricted a lot of the access of the site, especially the post of a more personal nature, as I don’t feel as comfortable writing about myself, or those people around me, as much as I used to. It seems only fair that I keep what I write about others close to me, close, and for the most part there’s really nothing there for the everyday reader to read about.

So, what about me?

I used to work in the software industry in Australia, many years, after graduating from university. It was a good gig, and for the most part I enjoyed the job. Life was good.

At some point I decided to try my luck in South Korea, teaching English, on the advise of my best mate Marc, who was in Korea teaching, too. It was kind of a quiet patch in my life, and the change of scenery and pace was most welcome.

For three years I lived in a wonderful country town called Andong. Andong is considered by Koreans to be the spiritual centre of Korea, and while it lacked some of the western comforts I was used to, not to mention a lack of many foreigners, it provided a perfect place to submerge oneself into a new culture. I met some wonderful people in Korea, both Korean and otherwise, some of which I consider my closest friends.

I also met the love of my life, Em, in Andong. No, she’s not Korean, but Chinese, and is also an amazing person. You’ll read about her from time to time during some of my posts.

My last two years in South Korea were spent in it’s 3rd (or 4th, depending on how you read it) largest city, Daegu. Life in Daegu was great, with good shopping, based in a fantastic location, and working at a top rate Englosh academy. As much as I loved in Andong, moving to Daegu was merely a natural progression to something more different and bigger.

From 2010, Em and I moved to Beijing, where we’re both currently living and working. I’m still doing the English gig, this time for a large international English company, and enjoying the new challenges that both a new job, and country, bring with it.

The future holds many questions, I look forward to answering them one at a time.
